Former Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad himself is not contesting the elections. But, he is engaged in the political battle through his party Progressive Democratic Azad. He is constantly attacking the Congress. Ghulam Nabi Azad nitin yadav In a special conversation with…

Why did you leave Congress and form a new party?

Congress is now rusty. There is no tradition of doing any kind of work there. What would one do by staying in a place where there is no talk of working?

After so many years, did you feel that Congress has rusted?

I wanted to teach them how to work there. They did not want to do that, so I left from there. Those who were made in-charge or general secretary in the states with me did not want to work at all. Wherever I went, I won, but everyone else lost. The condition of district committees and state committees is also the same. I tell my workers that whoever follows the Congress’s path will sink. There is no problem with Congress’s policies. People there do not want to change the work culture.

What do you want to say about Rahul Gandhi?

What can I say about him? Everyone knows and sees how he works. There is no need to say much.

You are being accused of taking a soft stance towards the BJP?

People can say anything. I have my own party. I did development while being the CM and even now I want to do politics of development. Be it BJP or any other party…I say that politics of religion is not right. In childhood we were taught that if sticks are kept together, they do not break. If they are separated, they can be broken. Everyone should stay united. There are already enough enemies on the border. In such a situation, there should be talk of taking the country forward.

What do you have to say on the removal of Article 370?

What happened by removing it? Now only the structure was left. It was not needed now. When this article was imposed, Jammu and Kashmir did not have the rights of foreign affairs, defence and currency. Apart from this, everything was its own. Then it had its own President and judiciary. These were already abolished by Nehru and Indira. Now only some rights including land were left. Now it should have been left like this. BJP people should have taken advice from me. I would have told the right way.
