New Delhi. The Indian women’s team made a great start in the Women’s Asia Cup (Womens Asia Cup 2024). India defeated the Pakistan women’s team by 7 wickets in their very first match. Smriti Mandhana scored the most runs for India. Shefali Verma scored 40 runs in 29 balls in this match. After this brilliant innings, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar has compared her to Virender Sehwag.
Sanjay Bangar said, “When I was watching Shefali’s bat, I was reminded of Virender Sehwag. Because the way she uses her feet is similar to Sehwag. She forced the opposing team to lose their confidence in the first 6 overs. Because she played good shots continuously. The off drive she played. I think that was the best shot.”
Bangar further said, “This shot of hers shows that she is not only aggressive in batting. But she also knows how to hit shots with good technique.” Let us tell you that Shefali Verma scored 40 runs in her innings. During this, she hit a total of 6 fours and 1 six. Shefali had a partnership of 85 runs for the first wicket with Smriti Mandhana.
Talking about the match, in the Women’s Asia Cup being played in Sri Lanka, Pakistani captain Nida Dar won the toss and decided to bat first, which did not prove to be fruitful for them. Indian bowlers did not let Pakistan survive even for the full 20 overs and stopped their innings at 108 runs in 19.2 overs.
