There is a good news for the people of the Sikh community trapped in family and civil disputes in Britain. A new court has been launched by British Sikh lawyers in London. People from the Sikh community came together to establish the new court as a dispute resolution forum.

Sikh court started in Lincoln’s Old Hall

A news report said that the Sikh court was inaugurated with religious chants in a ceremony at the Old Hall of Lincoln’s Inn, London. Advocate Baldeep Singh, one of the founders of the court, says its aim is to assist Sikh families in times of need while dealing with conflicts and disputes.

Court will be conducted individually

It is reported that the new court will be personally run, and will have about 30 magistrates and 15 judges. The special thing is that most of these will be women. The job of the magistrate in the court will be to mediate between the parties to reach an agreement.

These matters will be looked into in the court

After discussions with Sikh organisations, it has been decided that the court will deal with cases like domestic violence, gambling and drug abuse. If mediation is unsuccessful in these cases, the case may be brought before a court judge. After this a legal decision will be taken under the Arbitration Act. Baldeep Singh said that the issues which we cannot deal with will be directed to the appropriate place. Under the new court rules, both parties to a case must consent to participate. He further said that the purpose of this court is not to take over and harass the English courts.
