FASTags With Incomplete KYC Will Be Deactivated After January 31 2024 How to Check Status and Complete Verification All Details

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that it will deactivate those FASTags for which Know Your Customer (KYC) has not been done. The deadline for this has been kept as 31 January. This is part of the ‘One Vehicle, One Fastag’ initiative, which aims to eliminate the use of a single Fastag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple electronic toll collection tools in a single vehicle. FASTag is a pre-paid tag for vehicles, which eliminates the hassle of crossing the toll by paying cash at the toll plaza. This tag is placed on the windshield of the vehicle, which is detected by the camera system installed at the toll and the toll money is deducted directly from the account linked to the Fastag of that vehicle.

The highway authority has announced that FASTags without KYC will be deactivated from January 31. In its statement, the authority said that the deadline for this is January 31 and it is part of the ‘One Vehicle, One Fastag’ initiative. Apart from this, it has also been said that to avoid inconvenience, users must ensure that the KYC of their latest FASTag is complete.

“The previous tags will be deactivated/blacklisted after January 31, 2024 and only the latest FASTag accounts will remain active,” the statement said.

The authority also said that it took this initiative after it came to know that more than one FASTag has been issued for a particular vehicle and FASTags are being issued without KYC in violation of the RBI order.

NHAI also said that Fastag is sometimes deliberately not affixed on the windscreen of the vehicle, causing unnecessary delays at toll plazas and causing inconvenience to people using national highways.

As we mentioned, FASTag is a pre-paid tag for vehicles that allows them to cross the toll plaza instantly, without waiting at the toll plaza. These tags use radio-frequency identification or RFID technology and enable automatic deduction of toll fees.
