Host England scored 416 runs on the very first day of the second Test against West Indies. The bad ball that England had to face defeat in India has not left them even now. England scoring 400 runs in just 86.1 overs against West Indies is proof of this.
The second Test match between England and West Indies started on Thursday. Opener Jack Crowley was out in the first over without opening his account. But the other opener Ben Duckett along with Ollie Pope played such a game that the game almost slipped out of West Indies’ hands. 29-year-old Ben Duckett implemented the badgeball strategy on the field and scored 71 runs in 59 balls. He hit 14 fours in this innings.
Ollie Pope, who came to bat at number three, played a little slower than his partner Duckett but played a long innings. He scored 121 runs in 167 balls. Ollie Pope hit 15 fours and a six in his innings. Captain Ben Stokes (69) played a half-century innings for England. He scored 69 runs in 104 balls. Chris Woakes scored 37 and Jamie Smith and Harry Brook scored 36-36 runs.
For England, three batsmen scored runs at a strike rate of more than 100. These three batsmen include Ben Duckett (120.33), Harry Brook (105.88) and Shoaib Bashir (125.00). Bashir was dismissed after scoring 5 runs off 4 balls. For West Indies, Alzari Joseph took the maximum of 3 wickets. However, he was also quite expensive and conceded 98 runs in 15.3 overs. Jaden Seals, Kevin Sinclair and Kavem Hodge took two wickets each.
