Medical entrance exam NEET-UG has been the center of controversy these days due to allegations of several irregularities. Now the Union Education Ministry has sought a report from the Economic Offenses Unit of Bihar Police on Wednesday regarding alleged irregularities in the conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (UG) 2024 in Patna. The government will take further action after receiving the report.

Let us tell you that in the entrance examination involving more than 24 lakh students, there have been allegations of question paper leaks and other irregularities in states like Bihar. The allegations led to protests in several cities and petitions were filed in several High Courts as well as the Supreme Court.

A senior ministry official said, the government is committed to ensuring the sanctity of examinations and protecting the interests of students. He said that any person or organization found involved in this matter will not be spared.

The Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 13 told the apex court that they have cancelled the grace marks awarded to 1,563 candidates who took the exam for admission to MBBS and other such courses. The Centre had said the candidates will have the option of either taking the exam again or forgoing the compensatory marks awarded to them for loss of time.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard a petition filed regarding the alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. During this, the court asked many sharp questions to the National Testing Agency. The court said that if there is even 0.001 percent negligence in the NEET exam, then it should be dealt with. Along with this, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the NTA and the Central Government and asked them to file a reply in this matter. Talking about the hard work of the students for this medical exam, the Supreme Court said that this petition should not be seen in a confrontational sense.

Let us tell you that the exam was conducted on 5 May at 4,750 centers and about 24 lakh candidates appeared in it. Its results were expected to be declared on 14 June, but were declared on 4 June, as the evaluation of answer sheets was already completed.
