Saturn’s Ring: The rings of Saturn are considered one of the most attractive sights of the solar system. New research has claimed that Earth also had such rings, which we cannot see today. Today, Earth is known for its blue oceans and human life along with the lives of many creatures. The report of Earth and Planetary Science Letters has claimed that Earth also had rings 460 million years ago. The research states that millions of years ago, there must have been asteroid rings on Earth and they must have remained for millions of years. These rings must have also affected the Earth’s climate.

Monash University geologist Andrew Tomkins said that in a research published last week in Earth and Planetary Science, my colleagues and I provided evidence that there must have been a ring around the Earth. This can solve many problems of the history of our planet. He said that 46.6 million years ago, many meteorites fell on the Earth. This is scientifically proven, because many craters have been formed on the Earth. We get evidence of this from Europe, China and Russia, where there are limestone deposits, which contain a lot of debris of meteorites. These sedimentary rocks contain fragments of meteorites, which were exposed to space radiation for a shorter time than the meteorites falling today. During this time, many tsunamis also occurred, this can be guessed from the disarrangement of the sediments. Scientists believe that these features connect each other.

How were the Earth’s rings discovered?
Andrew Tomkins said that scientists know about 21 craters formed due to meteorites. He said that to know about these craters, we used the model of the activities of the Earth’s tectonic plates, which showed where the craters were formed when meteorites fell. It was seen that all the craters were formed close to the equator. None of these craters was found at a place which is close to the poles. Scientists believe that in today’s time these craters have either reduced, or have become disorganized due to tsunami etc., due to which the rings of the Earth are not visible.

How are rings formed?
We all know that Saturn is not the only planet with rings, apart from this Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune also have light rings. Some scientists also believe that Mars’ small moons, Phobos and Deimos, may also be the remains of ancient rings. According to scientists, when a small planet passes close to a big planet, it gets pulled due to the force of gravity. During this, it can break into many pieces. When these pieces start revolving around the equator of the big body, they appear in the form of a ring.
