External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Sri Lanka today in his first bilateral foreign visit in his second consecutive term. Regarding Jaishankar’s visit, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that this visit reaffirms India’s ‘Neighbor First Policy’ and underlines New Delhi’s continued commitment to Sri Lanka as its closest maritime neighbor and time-tested friend. Also, this visit of the Foreign Minister will give impetus to mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in connectivity projects and other areas.

Jaishankar was part of Prime Minister Modi’s delegation in Italy

Jaishankar was part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s delegation at the G7 Outreach Summit held in Italy’s Apulia region last week. Jaishankar’s visit to Sri Lanka is his standalone bilateral visit after taking over as External Affairs Minister for the second term on June 11. India’s Foreign Ministry said, “The Foreign Minister will hold meetings with the Sri Lankan leadership on a wide range of issues. The visit will give impetus to connectivity projects and mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas.”
