Achieving a great success, the doctors created history by successfully operating a cancer patient from Delhi admitted 40 km away through telesurgery technique. The entire procedure from making an incision to removing the tumor and stitching the wound was completed virtually in an operation that lasted about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Wearing dark glasses and operating a robot, the doctors cut out and removed the cancer-affected cells around the patient’s urinary tract. The patient’s condition is stable. He may be discharged this week.

This successful operation took place on Saturday. The team of doctors was at SN Innovation in Gurugram and the 52-year-old patient was at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center in Rohini, Delhi. The procedure was completely successful as there was no internet or technology disruption during the operation.

The operation was done by Dr. Sudhir Rawal, Medical Director and Head of Genito-Uro Oncology Department of Cancer Institute and his team. Dr. Rawal said, now it is possible to treat a patient from any corner of the country through telesurgery. During the operation, both hands were on the robot. Within a few seconds, I realized that I was in the operation theater and the patient was lying in front of me. The way the surgical part of the patient is seen in a normal operation, the same kind of vision was here with 3D quality.

China also did the operation

Three days ago, a Chinese doctor sitting in Rome operated on a patient in a Beijing hospital 13 thousand km away. This patient was suffering from prostate cancer.

operation with this technique

The entire operation was carried out using a surgical robotic system. It has five thin robotic arms.

  • There is an immersive 3D HD headset, which provides the surgeon with clear vision. In this technique, the patient gets an incision smaller than a finger. There is also less bleeding.
  • After the organ or cell is to be removed, the stitches and the patient’s recovery are much faster than in traditional surgery.
  • It was also broadcast among 400 doctors in Bangalore.
