Dhanteras 2023 Subh Muhurat: The five-day festival of lights starts from Dhanteras. Before Diwali, people do shopping on Dhanteras so that Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber can reside in the house. This year Dhanteras is on 10th November, Kuber ji is worshiped on this day. According to astrology, this year a lot of auspicious yogas are being formed on Dhanteras. People worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and Lord Kuber. This day is also celebrated as Dhanvantari Jayanti. Dhanteras is going to be celebrated on Trayodashi date, hence it is also known as Dhantrayodashi. It is considered good to do shopping during auspicious time on Dhanteras. According to the Panchang, the auspicious time for shopping is from 12:35 pm on Dhanteras day i.e. 10th November till the morning of the next day i.e. 11th November.

Dhanteras Lakshmi Puja Muhurat

Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber are worshiped on the holy festival of Dhanteras. The auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja on Dhanteras will be from 05:48 pm to 07:47 pm on Friday, November 10.

Rules related to Dhanteras

  • Dhanteras is celebrated on Udayvyapini Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik. Here Udayvyapini Trayodashi means that, if Trayodashi tithi starts with sun rise, then Dhanteras should be celebrated.
  • On the day of Dhan Teras, a lamp is also donated to Yamraj during Pradosh Kaal (three moments after sunset). If Trayodashi Tithi touches Pradosh Kaal on both the days or does not, then in both the cases lamp donation is done on the second day.


Dhanteras worship method ,

  • The greatest wealth of human life is good health, hence this festival should be celebrated on the incarnation day of Ayurveda’s God Dhanvantari i.e. Dhan Teras to attain wealth in the form of health.
  • There is a tradition of Shodashopachar worship of Dhanvantari Dev on Dhanteras. Shodashopachar means completing the puja with 16 rituals.
  • These include asana, padya, arghya, achaman (scented drinking water), bath, clothes, jewellery, smell (saffron-sandalwood), flowers, incense, lamp, naivedya, achaman (pure water), dakshinayukta tambul, aarti, parikrama etc.
  • There is a tradition of buying brass and silver utensils on Dhanteras. It is believed that buying utensils brings prosperity. On this basis it is called Dhan Trayodashi or Dhanteras.
  • On this day, lamps should be lit at the main entrance and courtyard of the house in the evening. Because the festival of Diwali begins from Dhanteras.
  • On the day of Dhanteras, a lamp is donated in the evening for Lord Yama. It is believed that by doing this one gets freedom from the fear of Yamraj, the god of death.
