New Delhi. Now the East Delhi Municipal Corporation will build roads from the waste of Ghazipur Landfill Site. The East Corporation will start this as a pilot project in collaboration with the Central Road Research Institute.
About 25,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste will be used to build a nearly one kilometre long road in Kalyanpuri. This will be the first unique project of any municipal corporation in the country to build a road from solid waste.
According to the information, a technical team from the office of the Principal Scientific Advisor of the Government of India along with senior representatives of East Delhi Municipal Corporation and Central Road Research Institute visited three sites. But Kalyan Puri has been finalized as the pilot project road for this. The pilot project is being developed under the Sapanda Mission from the waste of the office of the Chief Scientific Advisor.
Waste to Wealth Mission is one of the nine science missions of the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council based on identifying, testing and implementing technologies for converting waste into wealth.
The mission has identified the Ghazipur dumping site as a priority. In this pilot road, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) will provide segregated waste from the landfill site for pothole filling and road construction, which will reduce the amount of waste from the landfill site and reduce its height.
Roads can be built by using garbage in a creative way. Also, Central Road Research Institute will provide technical support in building this pilot road by giving its outline.
