People in Delhi are facing a double whammy right now. The drinking water crisis is troubling people in the scorching Delhi. Many areas are facing severe water shortage. Meanwhile, Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi has made a big allegation. She said that there is a conspiracy to cut the pipeline to increase the water problem in Delhi. Due to this conspiracy, there is a 25% water shortage in South Delhi today. Atishi has written a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner. She has requested to provide security to the main water pipeline in Delhi.

Water Minister Atishi said, ‘There is a severe heatwave in Delhi right now and there is also a water shortage. During all this, it seems that some people are conspiring to make this water shortage worse by breaking the water pipeline. Yesterday there was a huge leakage in the supply pipeline of South Delhi. When our team came to know about it, a team was sent for repair and it was found there that holes had been made by cutting very big bolts. In this context, I have written to the Police Commissioner today that our main pipeline should be given police protection.’

Delhi government minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said, ‘A few days ago, some videos were made viral by certain people that there is a lot of leakage in Delhi. I don’t think that the leakage is natural, I think some people are causing leakage deliberately. Yesterday, the nuts and bolts holding the pipes in South Delhi were found cut, who cut them? Because of that, there was no water in entire South Delhi today. I would request the public to keep an eye on this because some people are conspiring to break these pipelines.’

Water Minister Atishi held an emergency meeting with officials

Amidst the water crisis, Water Minister Atishi held an emergency meeting with officials on Saturday and ordered to resolve the problem. Also, she instructed to increase the number of water tankers as per the need. Apart from this, she also talked to Himachal Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu over the phone to improve water supply. He assured all possible help.

After the meeting, Atishi said that the water crisis in Delhi is increasing. Due to insufficient water from Haryana, the production has decreased to 70 MGD. Only 932 MGD is being produced. The water level of Wazirabad Barrage has decreased by 6 feet from normal to 668.5 feet. The water received from Munak Canal has also decreased to 902 cusecs. The water purification plant has been affected due to the problem in getting raw water.

To deal with this problem, borewells in many parts of West Delhi have been connected to UGR. Also, Jal Board has increased the number of tanker trips in Delhi to 10 thousand per day. Jal Board is supplying about 10 MGD water through tankers. Atishi appealed that Haryana should give some extra water to Delhi until the Upper Yamuna River Board’s instructions come on the water received from Himachal. People of Delhi should also not waste water. If you see leakage anywhere, immediately report it on social media. We will take immediate cognizance of it. A day ago, a complaint was received from Kondli which was fixed within 12 hours.
