Delhi has Asia’s largest card market, even kings used to shop here

Gauhar/Delhi: The country’s capital Delhi has its own history and folklore. In one part of it, which is called Old Delhi, there are markets which are famous for their special work. There is one such market here which is full of wholesalers and retailers who make only wedding cards.

Ajay, who has been working in this market for 12 years, while talking to Local18 said that this is the largest wedding card making market in Asia. He said that this is a market where only wedding cards are made, which you will not find anywhere else in the world. Therefore, this is a unique market in itself. He said that wedding cards and related materials, paper are also sent from here to many countries.

300 year old market
Dipankar Jain, who has been running a shop here for 15 years, said that this market is believed to be from the Mughal era. Wedding cards and related items have been made in this market for about 300 years. He said that in the earlier times when there were kings and emperors, the metal on which the kings and emperors used to write letters and send them was made in this market.

Card is made for 1 rupee
Nitin, who has been working in this market for about 10 years, says that a card can be made here for as little as Rs 1. If you want the most expensive card, there is no limit to it. He said that at present, there is a huge demand for cards with ribbons, cards with photos of the bride and groom, cards with modifications and designer cards.

How to access this market
To reach this market, you have to get down at Chawri Bazar Metro Station from the Yellow Metro Line. This market will be found at a short distance as soon as you exit Gate No. 2. This market is open all seven days of the week. You can come here anytime from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
