Delhi: Bulldozers run in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar, illegal construction demolished, RAF deployed, more action to be taken

An anti-encroachment drive was carried out on Tuesday to demolish illegal constructions in Jamia Nagar in south-east Delhi. A senior police officer said that a large number of police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed in the area during the drive. The officer said that this drive will be carried out on Wednesday as well.

A senior official of the Delhi Development Authority said that in compliance with the Supreme Court order, the authority and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi jointly carried out a demolition drive today at property numbers E4, E5, E7 and I101 at Muradi Road, Batla House, Okhla.

Earlier, the Public Works Department (PWD) had launched an anti-encroachment drive to demolish illegal settlements in Delhi’s Geeta Colony last year. A large number of police and paramilitary personnel were deployed in the Geeta Colony area to maintain law and order.

The purpose of this action was to clear the way for the proposed road-widening project. Also, the PWD had demolished a temple and a mosque on Rani Jhansi Road in Jhandewalan area as part of its anti-encroachment drive. There was also a controversy over this matter.
