Delhi Market Closes On 25th May: In the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024, voting is to be held in all seven Lok Sabha constituencies of the capital Delhi on May 25. Regarding this, the apex organization of traders, Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has appealed to the traders and all market associations to keep their shops closed on May 25, the day of voting. CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal and President Subhash Khandelwal said that on May 25 Lok Sabha Elections In view of this, all 700 markets of Delhi will remain closed. Along with this, there will be a holiday in the industrial area as well.

Brijesh Goyal said that sometimes some shopkeepers in the retail sector open their shops in the evening after voting. If for some reason, the shops have to be opened, then employees should be given paid leave.

CTI’s message to traders

A message has been sent to all traders from CTI. CTI said that the salary of any employee or staff should not be deducted. He said that the Election Commission and the Labor Department have also directed to give paid leave to employees and staff to cast their vote in the elections. Discussions have also been held with the officials of Delhi’s market associations in this regard.

According to CTI, if any shopkeeper opens his shop after voting, he cannot force his staff or labour to come to the shop. At the same time, employees associated with emergency services have been appealed to go to work only after voting. Brijesh Goyal said that the Delhi government has already instructed business establishments including shops, hotels, restaurants, resorts, business and industrial units to give leave to their employees and not deduct salary.

The Labour Department of the Delhi Government has also issued an order, in which, as per the provision of Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act 1951, every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking or any other establishment has the right to vote in the Lok Sabha or Assembly elections. He will be given leave on the day of voting. However, the order also states that Section 135B is not applicable to any such voter employee whose absence may endanger or cause heavy losses to the related work.
