In the case of death of businessman Mohit Pandey (32) in police custody, on Sunday afternoon the family members again demonstrated by keeping the dead body near the minister’s residence in Vibhutikhand. Angry family members and people raised slogans against the police and demanded strict action against the culprits. During this time, there was a heated argument between the police and the family members. After assurance from BKT MLA Yogesh Shukla, people calmed down and went away.
At around 12:30 pm, the family reached the minister’s residence with Mohit’s body and started protesting by placing the body on the road. The family members started demanding the arrest of the murderers, compensation of Rs 1 crore and a government job for Mohit’s wife Sushma. On information, forces from several police stations including ADCP East reached the spot. When the police tried to convince the family members, they got into an argument.
Meanwhile, two youths became furious and started shouting slogans. When stopped, got into a tussle with the police. After this both were taken into custody. It was during the demonstration that SP leader Pooja Shukla came to meet the family members. He accused the police of murder. The police also took him into custody and sent him to Vibhutikhand police station.
During the demonstration, BJP MLA Yogesh Shukla from BKT also arrived. He assured the family members of appropriate action. After this, the police removed the protesting people and sent the body home. BJP MLA Yogesh again reached Mohit’s house and gave financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh. In the evening, the last rites were performed at Bhaisa Kund in the presence of police.
The cause of death is not clear in the post mortem report, some injury marks were found.
DCP East Shashank Singh said that the post-mortem was conducted by a panel of doctors on Sunday. Videography and photography were also done. The cause of death could not be clarified in the post-mortem report. Doctors have preserved the heart and viscera. Some injury marks were found on the body which were from the fight that took place before coming to the police station. He told that a case of murder was registered in this matter late in the night. The investigation of the case has been given to Inspector Gomtinagar Extension Sudhir Awasthi. On Sunday they reached Chinhat police station and started investigation.
