For the first time in Indian military history, two classmates will be the service chiefs of the Army and Navy. Army Chief-designate Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi and Admiral Dinesh Tripathi studied together in school till Class 5-A in the early 1970s. There was a deep bond between the two since their early school days. Despite being in different forces, both of them always remained in touch.

According to information, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi and Army Chief Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi studied together at Sainik School Rewa in Madhya Pradesh in the 70s. A defense official who is in touch with both the officers said, a strong friendship between the senior leadership in the army matters a lot in strengthening working relations.

At the same time, Defence Ministry spokesperson AK Bharat Bhushan Babu also tweeted that the honour of educating both these geniuses goes to Sainik School Rewa, who will lead their respective armies after 50 years. He said that the appointments of both the classmates have also been done within a gap of about two months. The Admiral took command of the Indian Navy on May 1, while Lieutenant General Dwivedi will take over his responsibility on Sunday i.e. May 30.

Lt Gen Dwivedi was the Northern Army Commander for a long time

Babu further said, Lieutenant General has had a long tenure as Northern Army Commander. He was born on 1 July 1964. Dwivedi was commissioned into the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles of the Indian Army on 15 December 1984.
