Islamabad High Court said that in Pakistan, the private data of common citizens was being collected without any human intervention or any legal warrant and was being given to anonymous agencies.

Pakistan’s leading newspaper Dawn reported in its report that the information given by the government to the High Court has revealed shocking facts. On the instructions of the government, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has forced telecom companies to implement a comprehensive surveillance system, which is following the footsteps of China. With this system, personal information of any person in Pakistan can be obtained in one click. This system is called Legal Intercept Management System. The interesting thing is that in Pakistan it has been implemented exactly like China. There is neither any legal control over this system, nor has it been kept under any regulatory scrutiny. In such a situation, the intelligence agencies of Pakistan can spy on anyone without any hindrance.

Phone call recording system implemented in Pakistan
Actually, some time ago in Pakistan, phone calls related to prominent people of the country were leaked. Allegedly, these phone calls were recorded by a third party. After the matter gained momentum in the media and social media, some affected people filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court. During the ongoing hearing in the case, when Justice Babar Sattar of Islamabad High Court insisted on seeking information from the government, the whole matter was revealed. The government told the court that a system to record people’s phone calls has been implemented.

What did the High Court say in its order?
According to Pakistani media reports, Justice Sattar has mentioned in his order that the data of citizens in Pakistan was being collected without any legal warrant. During this time, Pakistan’s licensed telecom companies were sharing complete information of users with anonymous agencies. This data surveillance includes everything from audio-video calls to messages and search history.
