We all have traveled by Indian Railways, but there is a lot of information about which we are not aware. And when we come to know about our rights, we are surprised. One such question was asked on the online platform Quora. The question was whether a train can be run with only one passenger? Users replied in their own way. But one explained it well by referring to an old incident.

Actually, 250-300 passengers can sit in a general class coach. Premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi etc. generally have around 72 seats per coach. Sleeper class coaches can also have around 72 seats. But once it happened that the train took only one passenger. The incident is of September 2020. Indian Railways had to bow down to the insistence of a girl and had to run Rajdhani Express train for her only ride. This girl reached Ranchi at 1.45 am after traveling a distance of 535 kilometers.

Officials had to bow down to stubbornness
Rajdhani Express going towards Ranchi had to be stopped at Daltonganj railway station due to the agitation of ‘Tana Bhagats’. The distance from here to Ranchi was 308 kilometers. There were 930 passengers in the train. Railways arranged buses and sent 929 passengers to Ranchi. But a female passenger named Ananya Choudhary refused to leave the bus. The officers tried to persuade her a lot but she did not agree. Said, I will go by Rajdhani Express only. If you had to go by bus then why would you buy a train ticket? In the end even the officers had to bow down to his insistence.

What does the railway law say?
Later, when the track became vacant, the train was given the green signal for Ranchi. In such a situation, the train was run with only one passenger. According to the railway law, if the passengers want to travel by the same train, then the railways will have to agree to their request. However, on most occasions such a situation does not arise and people accept it. This was probably the first time in the history of Railways that Rajdhani Express covered a distance of 535 kilometers to drop off a passenger.
