UP News: There was a huge uproar in Firozabad on Friday night over the death of a prisoner lodged in the district jail. People angry with the incident resorted to vandalism and arson. The police resorted to lathicharge to control the crowd. During this, a few people were injured. Now political rhetoric has started on this incident, meanwhile BSP chief Mayawati has reacted.

Reacting through social media, Mayawati wrote, ‘The way a Dalit prisoner was killed in jail in Firozabad district of UP is very sad. The government should take strict action against the guilty police personnel and also provide full help to the victim’s family.’ She further wrote, ‘Along with this, the police should immediately release the innocent people who raised their voice against this incident and also withdraw the cases filed against them. BSP demands this.’

His health deteriorated on 20 June
Firozabad SSP Saurabh Dixit said that on June 19, a man was caught on charges of stealing a scooter. After being produced in court, he was sent to jail. On June 20, his health deteriorated, so the jail doctors treated him. On June 21, when his health deteriorated further, he was sent to the hospital. He died during treatment there. After postmortem, his body was handed over to his family.

SSP said that while taking the body of the prisoner home, the gathered people started creating ruckus. People placed the body at Himayupur crossing and started protesting and shouting slogans against the police. When the police tried to convince them, they became furious and resorted to violence. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. The incident has caused tension in the city’s Thana Dakshin Police area.
