UK General Election Results 2024: After the parliamentary elections held in Britain on June 4, the results are coming in fast today. The fate of all the candidates of Britain’s 650 seats is being decided today. It is clear from the initial results that the Conservative Party led by Rishi Sunak is going out of power this time. 61-year-old Keir Starmer of the Labor Party can now become the next Prime Minister of Britain. According to the exit poll, the Labor Party can get 410 seats out of 650 seats. In the last election, 15 candidates of Indian origin won. This time 107 British-Indians are in the election fray. Here we are telling how many candidates of Indian origin have won so far.

In this election, 30 people of Indian origin were nominated by the Conservative Party, while the Labor Party nominated 33 Indian-British candidates. Liberal Democrats nominated 11, Green Party nominated 13, Reform UK nominated 13 and 7 other Indian origin candidates were candidates in this parliamentary election. Indian-origin PM Rishi Sunak may not have been able to make his party win, but he has retained his seat in Northern England. He has accepted his defeat and has left for London to resign.

Shivani Raja wins from Leicester East
Indian-origin candidate Shivani Raja was the Labour Party candidate from Leicester East, who has won. This time many big names were in the fray from Leicester East seat, including former MPs Claude Webbe and Keith Vaz. These MPs were contesting as independents. Shivani Raja was also born in Leicester. She has studied from Herrick Primary, Soar Valley College, Wigeston and Queen Elizabeth II College.

Kanishka Narayan wins from Wales
Labour’s Kanishka Narayan has won in Wales, defeating Alun Cairns. Narayan comes from a minority ethnic background and is the first MP from this group in Wales. Narayan was born in India but moved to Cardiff when he was 12 years old. He went to Eton to study on a scholarship. He has studied at Oxford and Stanford Universities before becoming a civil servant. He joined politics much later.

Suella Braverman has been a minister
Indian-origin candidate Suella Braverman has won from Fareham and Waterlooville seat. She also became a minister for a few days in Rishi Sunak’s government, but later she was removed from the ministerial post due to a controversial statement. She had accused the Metropolitan Police of adopting a very soft attitude towards the pro-Palestine protesters.
