New Delhi. While using an electronic device, there is always tension about its charging. The battery can drain anytime while on the road. Sometimes while going out, we see that the battery of the mobile, laptop, smartwatch or electric car is discharged, and it can take hours to charge it. But very soon your worry can end. This is because soon this time is going to change to minutes instead of hours, and this is not being said by us but by the researchers.
Actually, IIT Gandhinagar and Japan Advanced Institute of Science & Technology have together done a miracle. IIT Gandhinagar has done research and discovered a new anode material, which charges lithium ion batteries in minutes.
The 2D anode material is made using nano sheets obtained from titanium diboride. This is a multi-stacked sandwich-like material, which is present between layers of metal atom boron. On this, CNBC Awaaz correspondent Ketan Joshi had a special conversation with the head of the research team and found out how this happened.
This is how the miracle happened
IIT Gandhinagar Professor Kabir D’Souza said that currently the anode material of lithium ion battery is made from graphide. There are no holes on the graphide layer, due to which it takes time to charge. The materials used to charge lithium batteries are commonly called anodes. But the anode material is made from diboride, which is capable of charging the battery in minutes.
With this new technology, every device can be charged in a few minutes, which earlier used to take hours. From mobile to laptop, smart watch and electric car, charging will now take less time.
New technology is expected to arrive in India soon
Professor Kabir said that ‘We have sent a proposal to some battery manufacturing companies for the manufacture of batteries. In future, such batteries will be manufactured in India itself which will be able to be charged in minutes. These indigenous batteries will not only be used in India but can also be manufactured in other countries.
