Congress West Bengal unit president Subhankar Sarkar and several other party leaders faced opposition from protesting doctors on Sunday. The protesting doctors raised slogans against the Congress leaders and raised slogans of ‘go back’. In fact, the doctors of Sagar Dutta Hospital, a government hospital in North 24 Parganas, are protesting against the beating by the patient’s family members and Subhankar Sarkar and other Congress leaders had come to support them on Sunday.
Protesting doctors said- this is a mass movement of citizens
The protesting doctors told Subhankar Sarkar that ‘this is a mass movement of citizens for better healthcare, better infrastructure and more protection for doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers at workplaces. This is the platform of junior doctors. Please go away from here. We request you with folded hands.

On Friday, family members of a patient assaulted doctors and nursing staff at Sagar Dutta Hospital located in Kamarhati area of North 24 Parganas district. In protest against this incident, the doctors stopped work and started a strike. Doctors demand that the security arrangements in the hospital should be improved. Sunday is the third day of the doctors’ strike. Recently, the Bengal government is surrounded by the case of rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata. A lot of politics is also taking place on this issue.
This is the reason why when doctors started protesting in Sagar Dutta Hospital, Congress leaders came to support them. However, doctors stopped Congress leaders from doing politics on the issue. The doctors said their protest was ‘non-political’ and no politician would be allowed to join their platform.
