BCCI gave an update, new coach will be with the team in Sri Lanka series, Jai Shah told who was shortlisted

New Delhi. The Indian cricket team gave a memorable farewell to its head coach Rahul Dravid by winning the ICC T20 World Cup. Dravid’s contract with Team India was only till the final of this tournament. After this, a decision is yet to be taken on who will take over the responsibility of the Indian coach. Meanwhile, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said that Team India will play with a new coach in the Sri Lanka series.

The decision on the new coach of the Indian cricket team will be taken by the end of July. Jai Shah told PTI that the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee had conducted interviews for the new coach of India. Two candidates have been shortlisted by this committee for the responsibility of the head coach, out of which one name will be finalized soon. He said that the Indian team will get its new coach before the Sri Lanka series.

Former opener Gautam Gambhir’s name is coming up for the responsibility of the new coach of the Indian team. It is being said that he is leading in the race for this post. However, the Cricket Advisory Committee has also shortlisted the name of former coach of the Indian women’s cricket team WV Raman.

India’s upcoming series schedule
Team India has to play 5 T20 series in Zimbabwe between 6th and 14th July. The team has been announced for this and the captaincy has been given to Shubman Gill. The Indian team has to play a T20 series with Zimbabwe after the ICC T20 World Cup. National Cricket Academy head VVS Laxman will be sent on this tour as a coach. After this, the Indian team has to play 3 ODIs and the same number of T20 matches in Sri Lanka. These matches will be played between 27th July and 7th August.
