Bangladesh Supreme Court Verdict: Seeing the situation in Bangladesh burning in the fire of reservation, the Supreme Court has withdrawn the decision of reservation in jobs. The top court of Bangladesh took this decision on Sunday. It was said in the statement that due to this unrest spread across the country. Many people lost their lives. In its decision, the Supreme Court ordered to allocate 93% government jobs on the basis of merit, while 7% has been left for the families of soldiers who fought in the Bangladesh Independence War in 1971. Till now 30% of such jobs were reserved for such people.
The decision was taken after a week of violent protests
This violent protest over reservation was going on in Bangladesh for a week. Hundreds of people have lost their lives in this. According to news agency Reuters, the government issued instructions to keep all offices and institutions closed. At the same time, a strict curfew was imposed in the country. The government had instructed the police to shoot the miscreants on sight. At least 114 people have died in the last one week. At the same time, more than 4 thousand people were injured. Now on Sunday, the Supreme Court changed the decision of the lower court during the hearing. The court asked to give 93% government jobs on the basis of merit. Also, 7% jobs will be for the families of those who fought for independence.
This was the main reason for the uproar
The reason for the protests and violence in Bangladesh was reservation in government jobs. Since independence in 1972, the descendants of freedom fighters have been given 30 percent reservation in government jobs. One faction wants this reservation to continue. While the other faction wants to end it. The Sheikh Hasina government had abolished this reservation system after the protests in 2018. Now when the matter went to the Supreme Court, it was changed there too on Sunday.
