Bharatiya Janata Party Jharkhand chief Babula Marandi on Monday targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He said that Rahul keeps talking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Constitution, but does not talk about the wrongdoings of his grandmother. Marandi said that Rahul should apologize for the wrongdoings of his grandmother. Earlier, the Congress leader criticized PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah amid the controversy over the appointment of Bhartruhari Mahtab as Protem Speaker. Claimed that both are attacking the Constitution.

Babulal Marandi said, looking at the way the opposition leaders held copies of the Constitution in their hands, I want to say that they acted like former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who destroyed the Constitution by imposing Emergency. I want to say that Rahul Gandhi should apologize for the wrongdoings of his grandmother.

Before Marandi’s reaction, opposition MPs of India Block reacted sharply to the appointment of seven-time MP Bhartruhari Mahtab as Protem Speaker. They said that the BJP has appointed a Protem Speaker in a departure from the traditional practice of appointing a senior member. Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and India Block leaders staged a sit-in protest with copies of the Constitution in front of the Gandhi statue in Parliament to protest against Mahtab being made the Protem Speaker.

At the same time, before the start of the Parliament session, Prime Minister Modi called the Emergency imposed in 1975 during Indira Gandhi’s rule a blot on democracy. He said, on June 25, it will be 50 years since the blot on India’s democracy was imposed. He indirectly attacked the Congress and said that the new generation of India will never forget that the Constitution was completely rejected in 1975. Every part of the Constitution was torn into pieces. The country was turned into a prison and democracy was completely suppressed. PM Modi said that to protect the Constitution, the countrymen will take a pledge that no one will dare to do such a thing in India again.

After PM Modi’s statement, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reacted sharply. He said how long does the BJP want to rule by talking about emergency. Kharge said that you are doing this again and again without declaring an emergency.
