The situation in Assam is getting worse due to floods. Six more people died on Thursday. Four of them were from Golaghat and one each from Dibrugarh and Charaideo. With this, the death toll due to floods, landslides and storms this year has gone up to 62. At the same time, more than 21 lakh people have been affected in 29 districts. On the other hand, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria visited the flood-affected Morigaon district and interacted with the affected people of Bhuragaon village. He reviewed the current flood situation. During this, the Governor directed the district administration to make adequate arrangements for relief. While, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected the flood-affected areas in Maligaon, Pandu Port, Mandir Ghat and Majuli in Guwahati Metropolitan Area.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 21,13,204 people have been affected by the floods in 29 districts of Assam. While, 57,018 hectares of crop land has been submerged. Among the worst affected districts, 6,48,806 people are affected in Dhubri, 1,90,261 in Darang, 1,45,926 in Cachar, 1,31,041 in Barpeta and 1,08,594 in Golaghat. Currently, 39,338 affected people are taking shelter in 698 relief camps. At the same time, an alert has been issued in Kamrup (Metro) district, where the Brahmaputra, Digaru and Kolong rivers are flowing above the danger mark.

Brahmaputra and its tributaries wreaked havoc in Morigaon

According to ASDMA, a large part of Morigaon district is in the grip of floods due to the rising waters of Brahmaputra and its tributaries, affecting more than 55,000 people in three revenue areas. During his visit, Governor Kataria directed District Commissioner Debashish Sarma to reach out to the flood victims with relief material including medical facilities. At the same time, he asked the health department officials to provide assistance to the affected people, especially the elderly, lactating mothers and infants. During this, the Governor also took stock of the damage caused by the floods.

Union Minister Sonowal assessed the flood situation in two districts

Apart from this, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal assessed the flood situation in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts. Sonowal will be stationed in various flood-affected districts for the next three days.

The districts severely affected by the floods include Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Charaideo, Chirang, Darang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, East Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia.
