‘Squirrel Cage Gel’ History of

Squirrel Cage Prison was built in 1885 and is a very scary prison because it is built on the grounds of an old church mortuary. This prison of America is also built for tourists, which is famous for its frightening and disturbing design. This jail is also scary because the cells keeping the prisoners in it rotate. It is made in a circular shape and there is only one door to go inside it. Due to the peculiar and curved design of the jail, jailers are also able to rotate their cells to reach any prisoner. The most scary thing about this prison is that it not only attracts people towards itself but also keeps troubling them.

Strange incidents happen frequently

Till 1969 this place was used as a jail. Subsequently, in 1971, it was acquired by the Council Bluffs Park Board and converted into a museum by the Pottawattamie County (HSPS) Society. Even though the jail was converted into a museum, strange incidents often happened here. The employees here and the tourists coming to visit many times saw someone’s footprints and even heard someone’s whisper.

‘Whispers heard several times and sound of door moving’

In an article on the Council Bluffs website, museum manager Kat Slaughter was quoted as saying, “Many prison staff and volunteers have heard footsteps, voices, whispers and doors moving here. Some people have also seen black shadows across stairs and doors."

Four deaths related to ghosts

Ghosts in prison have been linked to several tragic incidents over the years. At least four deaths have occurred inside the building. One prisoner died of a heart attack, another fell from great height while trying to carve his name on the ceiling, a third died by suicide and a guard was shot during an accident with riot training equipment. Died.

Paranormal experts also found evidence

Paranormal experts have conducted numerous investigations at the site, some of which have captured unexplained phenomena, including electronic voice phenomena (EVP) and visual evidence of shadows. Slaughter noted that investigators have recorded electromagnetic field (EMF) anomalies in areas where there should not be any, which further adds to the mystery of the prison. According to HSPS, the walls of this prison have scratched signatures and dates of many of its notorious inmates. The HSPS said on its website that the scars are evidence of the prison’s horrific past, which is unlikely to be repeated in a modern facility.
