According to the report, 10 cities of the country – Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Shimla and Varanasi were studied between the years 2008 to 2019, 33 thousand deaths have occurred due to air pollution in these cities. The study found that even air pollution levels below the current Indian Air Quality Standards increase daily mortality in the country. “In 10 cities of the country – Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Shimla and Varanasi, about 33,000 deaths per year are caused by air pollution levels, which are higher than the WHO guidelines.
