Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: maharashtra assembly election The trend of politicians moving from one party to another before the Maharashtra elections continues. Meanwhile, giving a shock to BJP Rajya Sabha member Ashok Chavan, former MP Bhaskarrao Patil Khatgaonkar returned to Congress on Friday. He has said goodbye to BJP just before the Maharashtra elections.

Bhaskarrao Patil Khatgaonkar, a three-time Lok Sabha member from Nanded district, rejoined the Congress in the presence of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole and senior leader Amit Deshmukh. Khatgaonkar is a relative of Maharashtra BJP veteran and former chief minister Ashok Chavan. Along with him, former MLA Om Prakash Pokarna and Khatgaonkar’s daughter-in-law Meenal also joined the Congress, which is a key component of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).

‘Joined Congress without any conditions’
Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole said that former state minister Khatgaonkar has joined the Congress without any conditions. Patole said that the decision to include him in the Congress was taken after discussions with the party’s (Nanded) district leadership.

‘Help will be available in Marathwada’
Nana Patole expressed confidence that Khatgaonkar’s return would help the Congress perform well in the assembly seats in Nanded district, Chavan’s home turf in the Marathwada region.

‘Happy to be back home’
After joining Congress, Khatgaonkar said that he is happy to be back home and acknowledged that Congress gave him the opportunity to serve as MLA, MP and minister during his decades-long political career. He further said that for some time I had joined another party (BJP), but now I am back home.

He joined BJP in 2014
Let us tell you that Khatgaonkar joined BJP in 2014, when BJP formed its first government in Maharashtra under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis. The upcoming elections are likely to be held in November.
