An attempt has been made to kill former US President Donald Trump once again. A car full of ammunition has been found near Donald Trump’s rally in Long Island on Wednesday (September 18). According to a Daily Mail report, the police have allegedly recovered a car full of ammunition near Trump’s rally.
Earlier, an attempt was made to kill Trump on September 15 in West Palm Beach, Florida, when he was playing at his golf club. Secret Service officials foiled this attempt and took the suspect into custody.
There have been two attempts to assassinate Trump
Just nine weeks before this incident, a gunman had fired at Trump (78) during an election rally in Pennsylvania on July 13. In this attack, a bullet grazed Trump’s right ear. Special Agent in Charge Rafael Barros in Miami said in a press conference that ‘Secret Service’ agents opened fire on a gunman near the boundary of ‘Trump International Golf Club’ in West Palm Beach.
He said that the agency cannot say for sure whether the accused in custody also fired at ‘our agent or not.’ An agent of the US Secret Service, hiding at some distance from where Trump was playing golf, saw that the barrel of a rifle was visible from among the bushes at a distance of about 400 yards.
Secret service arrested a man
Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw said an agent opened fire, after which the suspect fled. Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement released soon after, ‘‘President Trump was shot but is safe. No further information can be released at this time.’’
Trump said in a message to his supporters, ‘‘There were sounds of gunfire around me, but before the rumors get out of control, I want to let you know that I am safe and well.’’ He wrote, ‘‘Nothing can stop me.’’
The arrested person is a supporter of the Democratic Party
According to three sources associated with the law enforcement department, Ryan Wesley Routh, the 58-year-old owner of a small construction company based in Hawaii, has been detained in connection with Sunday’s incident. Routh is a critic of the former president. According to the ‘New York Post’ report, Routh has a previous criminal record in North Carolina and he often shares posts on matters related to politics.
According to the report, Routh has been donating to Democratic Party candidates since 2019. Routh said in an interview with the ‘New York Times’ in 2023 that he wants to recruit Afghan soldiers who have escaped from the Taliban for Ukraine. He said that he plans to take them to Ukraine illegally through Pakistan and Iran.
