New Delhi. Harmanpreet Kaur’s women’s team intends to do something similar to what the men’s Indian team did under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. The captain of the Indian women’s cricket team said that Indian players have been working on becoming mentally strong for a long time. This will help them in the T20 World Cup to be held next month. India was the runner-up in the T20 World Cup in 2020. It has been placed in Group A along with six-time winner and defending champion Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
Harmanpreet said on Monday that the Indian players are working on becoming mentally strong so that they can perform their best at crucial moments of the match. She told Star Sports, “We have been working on mental strength for a long time. The last three-four overs during the match are very important. T20 cricket is not a short format because after all you play 40 overs in it.”
Harmanpreet said, “The mentally strong team wins in the last four-five overs of the match. We have been focusing on this for some time now. If we remain mentally strong in these last five overs, then we can perform our best.”
There has been a discussion about the poor performance of the Indian team in the finals. In 2020, it had to face defeat by 85 runs against Australia in the final. In the final of the ODI World Cup 2017, it lost to England by just nine runs. Even in the final of the Commonwealth Games 2022, Australia defeated India by nine runs to win the gold medal. Harmanpreet said, “We are working on these aspects. Hopefully we will be able to overcome these obstacles in the tournament.”
India will start its campaign against New Zealand on October 4 in the T20 World Cup. After this, it will face arch-rival Pakistan on October 6. The Indian team will face Sri Lanka on October 9. All three matches will be played in Dubai. India will play its last match in the group stage against Australia in Sharjah on October 13.
