Election activities are increasing in Haryana. With the completion of the nomination process for the assembly elections, the picture of the upcoming elections has become clear. The ruling BJP has fielded its candidates on all 90 seats. On the other hand, Congress has fielded candidates on 89 seats, while the Bhiwani seat has been left for the CPI(M). AAP has also declared its candidates in every assembly constituency. Apart from this, Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) has fielded candidates in alliance with MLA Chandrashekhar Azad’s Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), while Om Prakash Chautala’s Indian National Lok Dal has fielded candidates under an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party and Gopal Kanda’s Haryana Lokhit Party.
Meanwhile, there are some seats where candidates have entered the fray as independents after being denied tickets by their respective parties. However, this is not the first time that people dissatisfied with parties are contesting elections as independent candidates. Haryana politics has an interesting history of independent candidates contesting and winning elections.
Let us know how the performance of independent candidates has been in the last five assembly elections? How many independent candidates won the elections and became MLAs in these elections? How many independent candidates were successful in 2019?
