UP Weather Update: 11 districts in the grip of floods; 16 dead

Hundreds of kutcha and pucca houses collapsed due to continuous heavy rain in most parts of the state on Friday. 16 people died due to this. Many people are injured. 36 villages in 11 districts are in the grip of flood. Rapti is flowing 6 cm above the danger mark in Shravasti. The water level of Rapti in Balrampur has reached close to the danger mark. Ganga in Kachla Bridge of Badaun, Ken in Banda are flowing above the danger mark. Ganga is in spate in Kanpur and Bijnor. Security and monitoring of embankments has been increased. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted a slowdown in monsoon in the state from Saturday.

In the Braj region, the series of house collapses due to rain continued on Friday as well. Five people lost their lives here. 13 are injured. Gangashree (80) in village Bharatoli in Etah, Jitendra in village Himmatpur in Kotwali Dehat, Golu (5) died due to the collapse of the roof in Nayagaon. Shridevi (80) who was sleeping on the roof in village Hatauli Jaisinghpur in Firozabad died after being buried under the debris when the lintel fell. One person died in Agra as well. More than 12 kutcha and pucca houses collapsed in Mainpuri as well. Four people including a woman were injured. Council schools have been flooded after the heavy rains in Mathura.

Ramakant (44) of Mitauli in Lakhimpur Kheri died after a mud wall collapsed due to heavy rains and strong winds for the past two days. Balakram (65) died after being buried under the debris of a house that collapsed due to a peepal tree falling on him in Hathela Wajidpur village in Mohammadi. Pradeep Kumar (21) died after a house collapsed in Sarah village in Badaun.

Six siblings were buried under a kutcha house in Naugawan Sadat, Amroha. Haris (13) died in this incident. Sundari Devi (52) died when the roof of a house collapsed in Paramhans Vihar Laxmi Garden Colony in Ghaziabad.

Labourer Tahir (42) died after being buried under the debris of a kutcha house that collapsed in Kakrauli in Muzaffarnagar. Three people died in Meerut due to the collapse of houses. One person each has also died in Kannauj and Hardoi due to the collapse of kutcha houses.

Avadh: Woman dies due to wall collapse in Gonda

In Bhadjotiya Ayah village of Itiyathok (Gonda) area, a mud wall suddenly collapsed due to rain at 6 pm on Friday evening. Sajida (40), wife of Riaz and her two-year-old daughter Halima got buried under it. The family somehow removed the mud, but by then Sajida had died. Halima was injured in the accident.

As the pressure area formed over Uttar Pradesh passes towards the northwest, there are signs of the weather system which has been active for the last few days gradually weakening. This will reduce the intensity of rain. On Saturday, there is a possibility of moderate rain in Hardoi, Kannauj, Sitapur, Lakhimpur etc. areas of western and central Uttar Pradesh.

Instructions to give relief amount of Rs 4 lakh each

CM Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the loss of lives due to rain and lightning. He has given instructions to provide immediate treatment to the injured and relief amount of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The CM has given instructions to deploy NDRF, SDRF and PAC teams in flood-affected areas.

One PAC team in Farrukhabad, one each of SDRF and PAC in Gonda, two NDRF teams in Lakhimpur Kheri, one each of SDRF and PAC teams, one PAC team in Barabanki, one SDRF team in Jalaun, one PAC team in Sitapur, one PAC team in Banda, one each of NDRF and SDRF teams in Pilibhit have been deployed.
