New Delhi. In international cricket, many batsmen have scored centuries in their debut Test, while some batsmen have made this occasion memorable for themselves by scoring a century in the 100th Test of their career. So far, only two batsmen in Test cricket – Pakistan’s Javed Miandad and West Indies’ Gordon Greenidge – have achieved the feat of scoring a century in their debut and 100th Test. Apart from this, England’s Joe Root has a record in his name which no one else has been able to achieve till now. Root is the only batsman to score a century in the 98th, 99th and 100th Tests of his career.

Root, who made his Test debut against India in December 2012, played his 100th Test against the same team in February 2021. In his first Test, he could not score a century (73 in the first innings and 20* in the second innings) but made his 100th Test match special by scoring a double century. Apart from Root, only David Warner has scored a double century in the 100th Test so far.
