The name of Brahmin face Mata Prasad Pandey has been approved by the Samajwadi Party as the leader of the opposition in the assembly. SP has announced this by issuing a letter. Mata Prasad Pandey has also been the speaker of the assembly in the Akhilesh government. Along with this, SP has given Mehboob Ali the responsibility of the presiding board in the Vidhan Sabha, Kamal Akhtar as the chief whip and Rakesh Kumar alias RK Verma as the deputy whip.
Contrary to all speculations, SP chief Akhilesh made Mata Prasad Pandey the leader of the opposition.
