There is no doubt that till some time back all smartphones were similar in appearance. But this year some manufacturers launched new flagship phones with thin borders and tall screens. Now, most manufacturers are using 18:9 aspect ratio and buyers are also coming forward to buy smartphones with new looks. Smartphone manufacturer Oppo is also launching its new flagship phones with 18:9 aspect ratio. Oppo F5 has joined this list with. We got a chance to spend some time with this new variant at the time of the official launch. Let’s know how the phone looks at first glance.

The first thing that catches attention is the large display in the phone. The F5 has a 6-inch FullHD+ screen. The screen with 18:9 ratio fits in the 5.5-inch screen size. The edges of the phone are thin and it is not heavy at 152 grams. The power and volume buttons are easily accessible.

On the front, the phone has an earpiece and a 20-megapixel selfie camera. The bottom of the phone is empty as Oppo smartphones come with on-screen navigation buttons.

The back of the phone is curved near the edges, which makes it easier to grip the phone. Our gold review unit has silver antenna lines at the top and bottom, which look good. The phone has a 16-megapixel rear camera with aperture f / 1.8. The sensor is slightly raised but there is a metal ring around it which will protect the lens from any kind of scratches. Oppo has placed the loudspeaker, micro-USB port and 3.5mm socket at the bottom while there is a second microphone at the top.

The phone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6763T processor. The base variant of the Oppo F5 comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage but the company has also launched a higher-priced 6GB RAM/64GB variant. The F5 is a dual-SIM device and comes with two Nano-SIM slots and a microSD card slot. The phone doesn’t come with a hybrid design, so there’s no need to sacrifice a second SIM card to expand storage. Powering the phone is a 3200mAh non-removable battery.

On the software front, the F5 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat with ColorOS on top. The UI is slightly different compared to stock Android. But if you have used an Oppo phone before, that shouldn’t be a problem.

We did not face any issues while using the phone, and we liked the combination of processor and RAM. Oppo has used AI beauty technology to enhance selfies taken with the 20-megapixel sensor. We clicked a few pictures with the camera and we liked the results.
