Nisha Rathore/Udaipur: The Mewar kingdom of Rajasthan is considered to be one of the oldest kingdoms in the world. The remains of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization have also been found on the banks of the Ahad River, which are said to be about 3000 years old. But today we are going to tell you about the Gangu Kund built on the banks of this civilization. It is believed that the Ganges originated here and even today this place is worshipped as sacred. The water that is taken for the Kaavad Yatra in the major Shiva temples of Mewar is also filled from this Kund and offered to Mahadev.
A huge Kavad Yatra starts from here
This holy place of Mewar is believed to be the origin of Maa Ganga. The Kaavad Yatra starts from here after filling the holy water to be offered to Lord Shiva. Every year thousands of Kaavads fill the holy water from here and take it to Lord Umeshwar Mahadev and Mahakal Temple along with other Shiva temples.
The Ganges originated here
Udaipur’s educationist Pradeep Kumawat told that when King Gandharva of Ujjain lost to Shuk and Hund kingdoms, he turned towards the west. King Gandharva had taken a boon from Mother Ganga that the fire of his worry would be extinguished. When the water of Ganga would be poured on him, but King Gandharva’s worry kept burning for about 7 days. After this, King Vikramaditya invoked Ganga and the fire of worry was extinguished. Vikrama II prayed to Ganga to always flow here. Since then, this pond remains filled with water throughout the year. No matter how hot it is, the water of this place never dries up. Along with various events happening throughout the year, worship here has special importance.
Great importance for Pitra Tarpan Puja
