In a defamation case, Congress leader and Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi reached the civil court on Friday at 11 am amidst tight security. He appeared directly before Magistrate Shubham Verma of the MP-MLA Special Court. He answered three questions asked by the magistrate. He said all the allegations made in the case were false. He left after staying in the court for about 20 minutes.

After recording his statement, the court has fixed August 12 for the next hearing in the case. During this, Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla, complainant Vijay Mishra and his lawyer Santosh Pandey were present in the court.

Former chairman of the District Cooperative Bank and BJP leader Vijay Mishra had filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi in the court on August 4, 2018. It was alleged that Rahul Gandhi had made objectionable remarks against Home Minister Amit Shah in Bangalore on July 15, 2018 during the Karnataka assembly elections. The court had summoned him for trial on November 27, 2023. On February 20, Rahul Gandhi appeared in court and got bail. The case was pending for about five months in the process of recording his statement.
