Amid the violence in Bangladesh over reservation in government jobs, India has increased the deployment of troops on the border. The BSF has issued a high alert to deal with any situation. Meanwhile, the safe return of Indian students from the Tripura border continues. So far, more than 4500 Indian students have returned home from the neighboring country. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Sunday that 500 students from Nepal, 38 from Bhutan and one student from Maldives have also reached India.

The Ministry said that Indian missions are in regular touch with the remaining Indian students and Indian nationals in various universities in Bangladesh for their welfare and assistance. The High Commission is arranging security escorts for the safe travel of Indian nationals to the border crossing points. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna are assisting in the repatriation of Indian nationals. The Ministry of External Affairs is also coordinating with the concerned Indian authorities to ensure smooth movement of Indian nationals at land-ports and airports. The High Commission is also coordinating with the civil aviation authorities of Bangladesh and commercial airlines to ensure availability of flight services between India and Bangladesh.

BSF on alert

BSF Tripura Frontier IG Patel Piyush Purushottam Das said that the deteriorating law and order situation in Bangladesh has also increased the concern of BSF. Therefore, we have increased security on the border. So that anti-social elements cannot reach the border. A large number of soldiers and senior commanders have been sent to the border.

He said that the safe return of Indian students from Bangladesh is continuing. More than eight thousand Indian students study in medical colleges there. These students study in medical colleges of Dhaka, Comilla and Brahmanbaria. Most of these students are returning via the border of Tripura. On Sunday, 314 Indian students including 66 Nepalis returned to India from the border of the northeastern state. While 379 students came to India on 19 and 20 July. He said that so far 693 students have returned.

The IG said that Border Guards Bangladesh was very helpful in the return of the students. They helped us by providing transportation and safe passage to the students till Agartala. More students are expected to cross the border in the coming days. These students are being safely brought back home.

The continuous return to the homeland

In the wake of the ongoing student protests in Bangladesh, which are witnessing increasing violence and arson, the government has imposed a complete shutdown of the internet to control the situation. Amid this unrest, many Indian, Nepalese and Bhutanese students studying in various educational institutions in Bangladesh are being sent back to their country.
