New Delhi. Sri Lanka’s team has started the Women’s Asia Cup with a one-sided victory against Bangladesh. Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first but it proved wrong. Apart from captain Nigar Sultana, no batsman could stand against Sri Lanka’s bowling. Bangladesh’s team could score only 111 runs for 8 wickets. Chasing the target, Sri Lanka won by losing 3 wickets in 17.1 overs on the basis of Vishmi Gunaratne’s fifty.
The host team has started the Women’s Asia Cup being played in Sri Lanka with a splendid victory. Sri Lanka has been placed in Group B along with Thailand, Malaysia and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka registered an easy win in the first match against Bangladesh. After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana decided to bat first. Host team captain Chamari Athapathu used 6 bowlers out of which 5 took wickets.
Bangladesh batting collapses
After getting the first blow on the third ball of the first over, Bangladesh team could not recover against the host Sri Lanka. The team got the first blow in the form of Dilara Akhtar on the score of 6 runs. Rubaya Haider got out on the same score. Both the wickets were taken by Udeshika Prabodhini. Captain Nigar Sultana kept fighting alone at one end and wickets kept falling continuously from the other end. She scored 48 runs while Shorna Akhtar played an innings of 25 runs and took the score to 111.
