Delhi Court Reserved Order On Jagdish Tytler: A Delhi court on Friday (July 19) reserved its order on whether to frame charges against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the anti-Sikh riots case in which three people were killed.
According to a PTI report, CBI Special Judge Rakesh Siyal reserved the order after hearing arguments from the central investigating agency and defence lawyers. The court is expected to pronounce the order on August 2.
What are the charges against Jagdish Tytler?
The CBI had alleged in its chargesheet, citing a witness, that Congress leader Jagdish Tytler got out of a white Ambassador car in front of Gurdwara Pul Bangash on November 1, 1984 and incited the mob to kill Sikhs. Kill the Sikhs, they have killed our mother. Former Union Minister Tytler is accused of inciting the mob by saying this, after which three people were killed.
Anti-Sikh riots broke out in many parts of the country after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984. A sessions court had granted anticipatory bail to Tytler in this case in August last year. The court had also imposed some conditions on Tytler.
The court’s conditions also included that he would not tamper with evidence or leave the country without its permission. The central investigating agency has filed charges under sections 147 (rioting), 109 (incitement).
The case pertains to the time when Gurdwara Pul Bangash in Azad Market was set on fire by a mob on 1 November 1984 and three people named Sardar Thakur Singh, Badal Singh and Gurcharan Singh were burnt to death. This incident took place a day after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
