No need for fertilizer and no fear of animals
Lemon grass farming neither requires fertilizer nor is there any fear of wild animals destroying the crop, so this crop is proving to be a profitable deal. Once the crop is sown, it continues to grow for five to six years.
Lemon Grass Cultivation Process
The best time to plant lemon grass is between February and July. Once planted, it is harvested six to seven times. It is harvested three to four times in a year. Oil is extracted from lemon grass. About 3 to 5 liters of oil is extracted from one kattha of land in a year. Its selling rate is Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500. Its first harvest is done 3 to 5 months after planting lemon grass. To find out whether the lemon grass is ready or not, break it and smell it, if you smell a strong lemon scent, then understand that it is ready. Harvest it 5 to 8 inches above the ground. In the second harvest, 1.5 liters to 2 liters of oil is extracted per kattha. Its production capacity increases for three years. The best time to prepare nursery bed of lemongrass is the month of March-April.

Know, how much will you earn?
If you cultivate one hectare of lemon grass, it will cost you Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000 initially. Once the crop is planted, it can be harvested 3 to 4 times a year. Lemon grass is crushed just like mentha and khus. About 100 to 150 liters of oil is extracted in 3 to 4 harvests. If 5 liters of oil is extracted from one ton, then about 325 liters of oil will be extracted from one hectare in a year. The price of a liter of oil is about Rs 1200-1500 per liter, which means that one can easily earn Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
