The unique singer Pankaj Udhas, who brought ghazals from the gathering of the rich to the common man by singing ‘Chithi aayi hai, aayi hai, chithi aayi hai’, was remembered a lot on Wednesday. More than two decades ago, Pankaj Udhas had started an event called ‘Khazana’, a festival of ghazals, to provide a platform to new ghazal singers. Wednesday was the day of announcement of this year’s festival and during this time everyone remembered him a lot with a choked throat and a heavy heart.

The next edition of ‘Khazana’ is going to be held on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 at 7 pm in the Regal Room of Trident Hotel. Who would have thought that the one who started this unique effort, would one day organize it in the memory of its founder. Pankaj Udhas, who left the world of music and voice on February 26 this year, has now taken up the responsibility of taking this effort forward through his wife Farida.
On the announcement of this year’s event, which is organised to raise funds for thalassemia and cancer patients, Farida said that we are definitely saddened, but we will continue to try to fulfil this objective based on the inspiration and guiding principles of Pankaj ji. We will continue to follow the way Pankaj ji has taught us to deal with adverse circumstances gracefully and live by walking on the path of struggle himself.
On this occasion, Anup Jalota, one of the founders of ‘Khazana’, said that the talent hunt competition started as part of the festival has become very popular in the last seven years. Talat Aziz said that through this, innovative ghazal singers from all over the world will once again come forward and perform at the festival. Apart from Anup and Talat, Hariharan, Rekha Bhardwaj, Vishal Bhardwaj, Kavita Seth and Papon are also going to be a part of this two-day event in this year’s program.
