India defeated Zimbabwe 4-1 under the leadership of Shubman Gill. Despite this victory, many players who went on the Zimbabwe tour may have to be dropped from the team going to Sri Lanka. Among them there are at least 2 such players who started their international career on the Zimbabwe tour. Rituraj Gaikwad is also unlikely to get a place in the team.
The Indian team is to tour Sri Lanka next week. The Indian team will play 3 T20 and as many ODI matches on the Sri Lanka tour. Different teams will be selected for both formats. 5 youngsters made their debut in Zimbabwe
BCCI had sent India’s youth team on the Zimbabwe tour. Due to this, 5 youngsters got a chance to start their career. These players include Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Sai Sudarshan, Dhruv Jurel and Tushar Deshpande. It is believed that Riyan Parag and Sai Sudarshan will not get a place in the team for the Sri Lanka tour.
Ryan and Sai could not take advantage of the opportunity
Riyan Parag started his international career with the first T20 match on 6 July on the Zimbabwe tour. However, he could not perform well in his first match. Riyan Parag was out after scoring just two runs. In the second match of the series, Sai Sudarshan got a chance to debut in the T20 format. Both Riyan Parag and Sai Sudarshan did not get a chance in the third match of the series. Rinku Singh and Shivam Dubey entered the team in place of both of them.

Rituraj Gaikwad is also unlikely to get a place in the team on the Sri Lanka tour. Rituraj batted well while playing at number three and four on the Zimbabwe tour. There can be a tough competition for the number three position on the Sri Lanka tour. The Indian team management is looking at Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers. Abhishek Sharma can get a chance as the third opener and he can also be placed at number three in the playing XI, so that he gets more experience of international cricket. Suryakumar Yadav will return for the Sri Lanka tour. Surya also plays at number three or four. Due to all this, the chances of Rituraj Gaikwad getting a place in the team seem less.
