Don’t be surprised, for the first time scientists have found a cave at least 100 meters deep on the surface of the moon. It is being said that this is an ideal place for humans to live. That means any human can easily live here. This underground cave is one of the hundreds of caves present on the surface of the moon.
The American space agency and scientists from around the world have been dreaming of settling on the moon for years. But the conditions there are such that it is difficult for humans to stay there even for a moment. Even if astronauts go there, they have to deal with all kinds of radiation and extreme temperatures. Talking to the BBC, astronaut Helen Sherman said, “This cave looks amazing. I think that in the next 20-30 years, humans will be able to live in these pits easily. This cave is so deep that astronauts may have to use a jet pack or a lift to get down into it.”
We went inside it with the help of radar
Lorenzo Bruzzone and Leonardo Carrer of the University of Trento, Italy, saw this pit on a rocky plain called Mare Tranquillitatis and went inside it with the help of radar. According to them, it can be seen from the Earth with naked eyes. It was here that Apollo 11 landed in 1969. This cave looks like a skylight on the surface of the moon. It was formed millions or billions of years ago, when lava flowed on the moon. Then a tunnel was formed between the rocks. Professor Carrer said that the closest thing to it on Earth would be the volcanic caves of Lanzarote in Spain.
Even on earth, life began in caves
The scientist said, this is really exciting. When we saw these pictures, we felt that we are very close to it. When we understood that the cave is quite big, we also tried to peek inside it. We felt that this would be the best place for humans to live. After all, life on earth also started from caves. That is why we feel that humans can live inside these caves on the moon too. However, going inside it is yet to happen. Scientists came to know about 50 years ago that there are caves on the moon. Then in 2010, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter took pictures of those pits. Then scientists felt that these could be the entrances of the caves. But the scientists did not know how deep the caves would be. Whether they would even survive or not.
