Carlos Alcaraz has beaten Novac Djokovic to become the Wimbledon men’s singles champion for the second time.

Alcaraz, the 21-year-old defending champion, won 6-2 6-2 7-6 (4).

Alcaraz had to play some stunning tennis to close out the third set which he did after Djokovic took it to a tie break.

The Spaniard now has four Grand Slam trophies after his two Wimbledon triumphs, his US Open victory in 2022 and his French Open win last month.

Speaking after the match Djokovic said: “He was definitely very hot today. Obviously not the result I wanted, and in the first couple of sets the level of tennis wasn’t up to par from my side.

“But credit to Carlos for really playing amazing tennis, complete tennis from the back of the court.

“I tried to push him, saved three match points, but it wasn’t meant to be, he was an absolutely deserved winner today, huge congratulations.”

He added: “I have to say I’m very satisfied. Wimbledon has always been a childhood dream of mine, and every time I step onto this court I feel like it’s the first time. I’m a child living my childhood dream once again.”

It comes a little over a month since the 37-year-old Djokovic underwent surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee after an injury during the French Open.

The final at the All England Club was a rematch from last year, when Alcaraz got past Djokovic in five sets.

Sky Sports’ Raz Mirza at Wimbledon said: “Alcaraz has dominated the Djokovic serve and longer rallies from the baseline. The Spaniard is in a different league right now. This is elite tennis!”

Sky Sports’ Michael Cantillon added: “Alcaraz is in flames. Even when Djokovic looks to have a potential edge in rallies, the Spaniard is producing perfectly-placed winners.”

But Mirza remarked it was clear “Djokovic is visibly not 100% physically fit”.

Numerous other celebs were also in the audience to witness the action, including Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Zendaya, Jamie Dornan and his wife Amelia Warner and Benedict Cumberbatch.

It comes after Barbora Krejcikova beat Jasmine Paolini in the Wimbledon women’s final on Saturday.
