India Maldives Relation Latest News: An order from the Maldives government has once again increased the concern of some Indians there. In fact, there is an increased risk of the identity of the civilian personnel flying the Dornier and helicopters gifted from India becoming public. The Office of the Information Commissioner (ICOM) of Maldives has ordered the Defense Ministry to make public the details of civilian personnel replacing Indian soldiers operating gifted military aircraft.
According to media reports, this order has been issued on a Right to Information (RTI) basis by Maldives’ media Adhadhu. Adhadhu had filed an application under the Maldives’ Right to Information (RTI) Act on May 12 to find out how he was confirmed as a citizen, his details and how he operated a military aircraft, but the Defense Ministry Refused to give this information.
ICOM gave orders to the Defense Ministry
When the Maldives Defense Ministry refused to provide the requested information, Adhadhu filed a complaint with the Office of the Information Commissioner of Maldives (ICOM). After four hearings in three months, ICOM termed the Defense Ministry’s decision wrong. Information Commissioner Ahmed Ahid Rasheed then sent a letter ordering the Maldives Defense Ministry to provide all the requested information to Ahadhu within five working days.
Civilian personnel were deployed in place of Indian soldiers
It is noteworthy that on May 10, 2024, the Muizzu government had said that 76 Indian soldiers have been withdrawn from Maldives. In their place, civilian employees of a defense company run by the Government of India have been kept here. These employees have flown these aircraft many times. on 26th July Independence Day At the function, Muizzu said that one patient was transported with the help of the Dornier aircraft, but the total number of trips made by the Dornier and the two Indian helicopters was not known.
