New Delhi. Australia’s great batsman Ricky Ponting has reiterated his prediction of a 3-1 win for the host team in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit is out of the first Test due to becoming a father in which fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will be the captain. Ponting has said in the ICC review that Australia will win this series 3-1.
He said, “Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith will have to score runs.” Australia’s bowling is very good, so I stand by my prediction. India knows what its team will be in the Perth Test. He knew that Rohit would not play in this test. It was also known that Bumrah would be the captain. He knew which shortcomings had to be filled. The team looks balanced.
Ponting expressed hope that this time his guess would prove correct. He said, “Last time Sunny (Gavaskar) was proved right but I hope that this time Ravi (Shastri) will not be proved right.” I will still say that Australia will win 3-1.
Ponting, who has scored the most runs for Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, believes that the Indian team is quite balanced despite the defeat in the home series against New Zealand. India has defeated Australia in the last four Test series. Last time in the 2020-21 series, after India was out for 36 runs in the Adelaide Test, he had predicted a 2-1 victory for Australia in a conversation with Sunil Gavaskar, which proved to be wrong. The second test will start from December 6, which will be a day-night match.
