Who is Mojtaba Khamenei: A big stir is being seen in Iran, one of the largest Islamic countries in the world. First of all, this country is busy in war with Israel. On the other hand, the news of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei suddenly appointing his son Mojtaba as his successor has shocked everyone. This step raises many questions regarding Iran’s sacred governance system (Vilayat-e-Faqih) and its future. So today we will tell about the life of Mojtaba Khamenei and the work done by him in the past.
Mojtaba Khamenei is the second son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He was born on September 8, 1969, in Mashhad, Iran. He studied theology and studied to become a Maulvi in 1999. Mojtaba is recognized as a religious and political person. He plays the role of a commanding officer in the office of the Supreme Leader. He has been positioned as a possible successor to his father. According to experts, after the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Mojtaba is the only person who is the top contender for succession.
Mojtaba Khamenei worked by joining IRGC
According to the Britannica report, Mojtaba Khamenei joined the IRGC in 1987 after finishing secondary school. He served at the end of the Iran–Iraq War (1980–88). By that time the war had devastated Iran. The regime hoped that by continuing the war it could gain an edge over Iraq, but in 1988 Iraq strengthened its hold in the war. Due to this, Iran had to accept a ceasefire brokered by the United Nations in July the same year.
By the beginning of the 21st century, Mojtaba had developed strong ties not only within the IRGC but also with Iran’s top clerics. His involvement in the office of the Supreme Leader further enhanced his powerful network. Mojtaba played a major role in suppressing anti-government protests in Iran in 2009, earning him a “radical” leadership image. This was the first time that he came into discussion on the international stage.
